From Bucks County, PA to the World Stage: Fusion’s Unforgettable journey in Taiwan

When the Bucks Fusion men’s and women’s crews stepped onto the global stage at the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Hualien, Taiwan, they brought more than just paddles and race strategies. They brought the heart, grit, and spirit of a truly homegrown Bucks County Dragon Boat Club. For nearly two weeks along Taiwan’s breathtaking Pacific coast at Liyu Lake, our paddlers, steerers, and drummers proved what happens when years of relentless training meet unwavering friendship.

Built on Homegrown Roots

What started on a small, local Bucks County lake reached its highest peak in Hualien. Fusion is a team who pushes each other through every Lake Lux practice and grueling workout. Taking both our men’s and women’s crews across the globe to compete against the absolute best dragon boat clubs on the planet was a testament to the strength of our team. Every stroke taken in Hualien reflected months of shared sweat, sacrifice, and mutual trust. We couldn’t have done it without the dedication and vision of our Head Coach Cynthia Laggan who knows the heart of this club because she has always been part of it. Cynthia makes sure each paddler feels seen and inspires Fusion to reach new heights!

World-Class Competition & Historic Moments

The racing in Taiwan was fierce, fast, and unforgettable. Facing world-class talent in every lane, all crews delivered powerful performances that showcased the absolute best of Bucks Dragon Boating. Our women’s crew captured two World Bronze medals in both the 200m and 500m events, securing a historic double podium finish on the international stage! Our men’s and women’s crews fought through every heat, semi, and final with clean technique, explosive power, and complete unity in the boat.

Beyond the Medals: Camaraderie & Memories

While bringing home hardware was incredible, the true victory was the journey itself. From the energy of the Opening Ceremonies to early morning breakfasts, team dinners, exploring night markets, bus rides to the race site and LOUDLY cheering each other on from the banks of the race course, the bond between our men and women was unbreakable. You can’t fake the smiles in our team photos. They are real, earned, and rooted in authentic connection. We traveled as a team, competed as a family, and returned home with memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to Fusion Head Coach Cynthia Laggan, our Worlds Manager Chris Wetzel, our amazing Tour Guides Cash and Joyce, family, friends, and the entire Bucks County community for believing in us and supporting this dream every step of the way. Bucks pride is officially worldwide!
